Bomb disposal teams will later carry out a controlled explosion on a big Second World War mine, found in Portland Harbour.

The 1-ton parachute mine has got to be towed out to deeper water before it can be disposed of.

It was found lying on the seabed by sonar equipment during a routine shoreline survey on Tuesday afternoon.

It was lifted from the water but carefully replaced once it was realised the danger the item represented.

The Police have been informed, and they will maintain an exclusion zone when the mine is disposed of safely.

Boats will also be told to steer clear of the area.
