9 Children Hurt After Inflatable Slide Comes Loose In Swanage

An investigation's started after nine children were hurt when an inflatable slide blew over at Swanage Carnival.

Two children were taken to Poole Hospital after the inflatable slide came loose and away from its mooring on Shore Road yesterday afternoon. Three more were checked over at a minor injuries unit. Heart's told all of them were allowed home later in the day.

A police spokeswoman said: 

"Dorset Police received reports at 1.46pm (Wednesday 3 August) that a bouncy castle came loose on Shore Road, Swanage.

"A number of children are being treated by paramedics. The air ambulance is attending.

"9 children were treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries.

"They either stayed to enjoy the afternoon or have gone home. None of the injuries sustained are being described as serious.''

Police said officers remained at the scene and would be speaking to organisers of the carnival.

The air ambulance was later stood down and Heart was told children suffered minor injuries, with two going to hospital in Poole with neck pain.

A South West Ambulance Service spokeswoman: 

"We received the call at 1.42pm to reports that an inflatable slide had blown over and reports that three children had been injured'"

"Two of the children were reported to be suffering from neck pain and they have been taken to Poole Hospital."

"The third child was treated on scene.''

"There is nothing to suggest their injuries are serious.''
