Dorset's biggest solar power station has been switched on.

The site at Slepe Farm near Poole contains 8 rows of solar panels covering an entire acre.

The power from the station will go straight into national grid - and is set to provide electricity for around 200 homes in the surrounding area.

It’s also set to create hundreds of local jobs.

The company behind the site, Anesco, say they have recruited more than 80 people to work there in the last six months, with a further 150 expected to be recruited this year. Up to 500 more jobs are set to be created over the next three to five years, all of which they say will go to local people.

The power station was officailly switched on by HM Lord Lieutenant of Dorset, at an official ceremony.
