Footballer Eliminated From Attack Inquiry

One of the footballers arrested in relation to a sex attack on a woman has been eliminated from police inquiries.

Brighton and Hove Albion defender Tommy Elphick, 24, was one of six players arrested yesterday morning by detectives from the Surrey and Sussex major crime team on suspicion of sexual assault.

A Sussex Police spokesman said:

"The gentleman's cooperation and assistance since his arrest enabled us to quickly establish that he was not of interest to us in this inquiry, and he has been advised that no further action will be taken against him.''

Police arrested five players from Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion and one from League One side AFC Bournemouth early on Thursday morning (January 19th).

They were taken for questioning at different custody centres across Sussex following the alleged attack on a woman in July last year.

The other four men from Brighton, aged 18, 19 and two aged 20, and the 20-year-old Bournemouth player remain on police bail until March 21, a Sussex Police spokesman said.
