Funeral For Powerboat Racer Killed Off Weymouth

Today (Friday 5th October) is the funeral of a powerboat racer from Southampton.

27 year old Mike Lovell was killed when his boat overturned in the final race of the P1 SuperStock UK series off Weymouth in September.

Around 1000 people are expected to pay their respects later today. His family have requested mourners do not wear black and say anyone who knew him are welcome to attend the funeral.

It's taking place at 1pm at St Mary’s Church in St Monica’s Road, Sholing.

Meanwhile a parade of Ferraris, Porsches and other supercars will follow the funeral cortege from Brookspeed in Portswood where Mike worked, to his funeral service.

The cortege will leave Brookspeed in Empress Road at 12.30pm for those wishing to travel with Mike on his journey to the church.

Race teams will also form a guard of honour at St Mary’s Church where the service will be broadcast over a PA system to the hundreds expected to gather outside.
