Detectives in Bournemouth are appealing for witnesses after a sexual assault at a leisure centre in Oakdene Forest Park, St Leonards, East Dorset.

The incident, in which a man attempted to kiss a 16-year-old girl on holiday from Chelmsford, happened in the sauna at the leisure centre at around 8.20pm on Sunday, 21 August 2011.

Detective Constable Scott Brimicombe, of Bournemouth CID, said: “The victim was in the sauna when the man approached her.

“He asked her if she had a boyfriend and if she would like one. She answered ‘no’.

”He then asked if she would kiss him before grabbing the victim behind the neck and by the wrist, and pulling her head towards his face.

“The victim managed to push the offender away and she ran back to the pool area.”

The offender is white, aged around 50, with a tan and white hair. He has stubbly facial hair, dark eyes and is described as having a ‘big belly’.

He was wearing dark blue, knee-length trunks.

DC Brimicombe continued: “I understand that the offender made off from the leisure centre soon after the incident still wearing his trunks and carrying his clothing.

“He went to a car in the car park and drove off.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident, and anyone who has any information about the man responsible, to contact me urgently.”

A Somerset man previously arrested in connection with the incident has since been released without charge.
