Man Critical After Weymouth Bin Van Crash

An 84-year-old man's critical in hospital after being hit by a wheelie bin delivery van, in Weymouth.

It happened in Newstead Road yesterday lunchtime. Dorset Police are investigating.

A Dorset Waste Partnership spokesperson said:
 
"One of our delivery vans was involved in a collision with a pedestrian on Newstead Road, Weymouth, yesterday. 

"We are fully assisting the police with their investigations and our thoughts are with the injured gentleman."

A Dorset Police spokesperson said:

"At approximately 12.45pm on Tuesday 27 May 2014 a collision occurred in Newstead Road in Weymouth between a council delivery truck carrying wheelie bins and an elderly 84 year old male pedestrian.

"The man sustained serious injuries and is currently in a critical condition at Dorchester County Hospital. Sergeant Stuart Pitman from the Traffic unit is appealing for any witnesses who saw either the truck or the pedestrian prior to the collision.

"Sergeant Pitman would also like to thank the community for their patience while the incident was being investigated."
