Money Stolen At Club On Portland

Detectives in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after a robbery at a club in Portland.

The incident, in which a man threatened a female member of staff and stole money,happened at the Young Offenders Institute Officers Club, known locally as the Portland Borstal officers club, on Grove Road just after 12pm yesterday, Sunday, 19 June 2011.

The 58-year-old victim was not injured as a result of the incident.

The offender made off with money – the amount of which is not being released.

Detective Constable James Mullen, of Weymouth CID, said:

"The offender threatened the victim by saying he had a gun."

-The robber is white and about five feet eight inches tall with brown hair.

-He was wearing a baggy grey hooded top.

DC Mullen continued:

"It is essential that anyone who noticed anything suspicious in this area at midday yesterday contacts the police immediately.

"Any information, no matter how insignificant it may appear, may help me to track down the man responsible for this robbery and bring him to justice.

"Anyone with information about this incident should not hesitate to contact Dorset Police."
