A pensioner was tied up with duct tape while burglars ransacked her home and made off with money and jewellery, Dorset police said.

The woman, in her 70s, was alone at her home in Poole at around 9pm on Monday when two men knocked at the front door.

They then forced their way into the property in Egmont Road, Hamworthy, before tying her up with duct tape.

They stole cash and jewellery before fleeing the scene, leaving the victim shocked but uninjured.

Dorset Police believe a dark-coloured VW Golf, registration number GU02 FKY, may have been used by the men.

Detective Sergeant Neil Wright said: ``This was obviously a frightening ordeal for the victim, who was thankfully not injured.

``I would like to trace the whereabouts of this specific VW Golf and am appealing for information.

``Anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident or may know the location of the vehicle should contact me on 101.

``All calls will be treated in strict confidence.''

One of the men is described as white, around 5ft 6in and of stocky build and about 45 years old.

He was wearing a black scarf over his face, a dark woolly hat, dark clothing and gloves.

The second man is described as white, taller than the first man, in his mid-30s, of slim build and clean-shaven.

He was wearing a dark woolly hat, dark zip-up jacket, dark trousers and gloves.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 4:386 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
