Police have praised a man from Verwood who discovered what looks like a cannabis factory in an empty house on his street,

59-year-old Adrian Wareham came across people acting suspiciously at the house on Station Road on Tuesday night.

He called the police, who attended and said it looked like the house had been used for the cultivation of cannabis.

Electricity supplies to the house had been by-passed to give power to allow the plants to be cultivated and the electricity suppliers were called in to make the address safe.

Detective Sergeant Mark Jenkins, of Ferndown CID, said: "The actions of the witness were very courageous and commendable and I’m very grateful for what he did after noticing this activity at a house he knew was empty.

A man in his 50's has been arrested in London.
