Spur Road Restrictions

Drivers heading out of Bournemouth on the A338 Spur Road will face delays for the next fortnight as the road is down to a single lane so work can be carried out to clear the verges.

The restriction is in place for two miles before the Ashley Heath roundabout, after it had been lifted for three weeks over Christmas.

Alice Dale lives in Charminster, but works as a midwife in Southampton. She told Heart the same lane closure last year caused her big problems:

"Occasionally I was called in for a labour and I couldn't get there in time so I missed the deliveries and someone else had to re-arrange their day to do them for me, because I was stuck in traffic.

"I don't feel like I have fully informed about what they are doing and why. I think if there were more details made available to me maybe I would be more understanding about it."

David Diaz is project manager from Dorset County Council. He said: "The A338 is in a very poor condition so this work really does need to be carried out.

"We have looked to see whather we can do the works at night, and it is not possible so we will do them as quickly as possible to reduce the disruption."

The work is in preparation for a major £26 million refurbishment of six miles of the road this autumn, which is expected to take six months to complete, and is likely to mean sections of the road being closed completely at times.
