Car maker Toyota is recalling more than 180,000 vehicles in the UK because of a problem that can make accelerator pedals stick.

The company say they are writing to people who own the seven affected models.  The advice is to not try and get the problem fixed yourself, but to get in touch with Toyota.

A total of 1.8m cars have been recalled in Europe and millions more in the US and Japan.

The first batches of parts to make repairs are due to arrive in the UK next week, and the first repairs are due to take place on 10 February.

The following Toyota models are affected:

  • iQ
  • Aygo
  • Yaris
  • Auris
  • Corolla
  • Avensis
  • Verso

In a statement, Miguel Fonseca, managing director of Toyota GB, said: "The safety of our customers is our top priority.  We appreciate their concerns and are doing everything we can to deliver a speedy and thorough solution to the issue with the minimum inconvenience."
