Man Arrested After Stevenage Assault

Police are appealing for information and witnesses after a man was assaulted in Stevenage Old Town on Sunday evening (May 1).

The incident took place at just after 10pm in the High Street, close to the White Lion Public House.
 
Two men, who were in a group with two women, became involved in a verbal altercation with two other men. One of the men in the group received a punch to the face which caused him to fall to the floor.
 
The victim, a man aged in his early 30s from Stevenage, received a fracture to his skull as a result and is currently in the Lister Hospital receiving treatment.
 
Detective Constable Mark Dunford said: “This was a serious assault and I am sure there were people who would have seen it. I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the Old Town that evening and believes they may have seen this take place to contact me at the earliest opportunity.”

A 34 year old man from Stevenage has been arrested on suspicion of assault GBH and has been released on police bail whilst enquiries continue.
