Fire At Bury Park Mosque

4 April 2012, 06:00

The Secretary of the Bury Park Mosque has told Heart that he doesn't think the fire in two bins was a hate crime.

The fire broke out early on Monday in the building on Bury Park Road.

The Fire Service were called at 04.29 - two bins which had been stored against the door of the Mosque had been set alight.

Fire Investigators and Scenes of Crime Officers have been at the scene to undertake a thorough forensic examination of the area and Detective Constable Colin Knight, investigating, is keen to trace any members of the public who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area.

Detective Constable Knight said: “Although the only slight smoke damage was caused to the doors of the premises we are treating this incident extremely seriously.  The fire could have spread and posed a danger to local residents. We are keeping an open mind as to who was responsible for this incident but we do need local residents and community members to come forward and speak to the police if they have information that could help this investigation.”
