Two men and a woman have been charged in connection with a conspiracy to handle stolen goods following raids involving a hundred police officers in Baldock, Letchworth and Stotfold.

The three charged are Mark Brookes, 32, of Angelica Avenue, Stotfold, Marie Mavric, 26, of Angelica Avenue, Stotfold, and Andrew Battison, 22, of Birds Hill, Letchworth.  They were due to appear in court on Friday 7 October 2011.

A 37 year old man from Letchworth and a 23 year old man, also from Letchworth, were also arrested and have been police bailed until 11 November.

Sixteen warrants were carried out on Wednesday 5 October under Hertfordshire Constabulary's Operation Scorpion which targets burglars, robbery, vehicle thieves and related drug crime.

The raids follow an increase of break-ins to sheds, garages and outbuildings across North Herts where high value bicycles, gardening and other tools were stolen.

Officers recovered more than two hundred items including high value bicycles, tools, gardening equipment and a quad bike.

North Herts Detective Inspector Kay Lancaster said "these arrests send out a message that we will not tolerate criminal activity in North Herts and we will tackle it head on with a robust response."
