The juror jailed for doing internet research on the case she was trying is being supported by students at the University of Bedfordshire.

Theodora Dallas was a psychology lecturer at the University of Bedfordshire in Luton

Her former students are signing an online petition to her have her spared of the 6 month jail sentence she received last week.

As well as the petition, students have been writing to MP's Kenneth Clark and Teresa May claiming the punishment is too harsh.

Dallas is originally from Greece so they have been trying to get the support of the Greek Embassy.

One student, who wishes to remain anonymous, says:

"A fine would have got the message through to say 'you shouldn't have done that' and that would have resolved the issue- there was no reason to put her in jail"

The student claims that Dallas should not be in jail because she is not a danger to anyone.

So far the online petition has over 600 names.
