Two Die In Police Chase

The police watchdog's investigating after two men from Bedford died while being chased by police in Hertfordshire.

The car the pair were travelling in hit a lamppost at Woolmer Green near Stevenage in the early hours of Friday 2 November 2012.

Hertfordshire Police said Cameron Nimmo, 20, and Karl Spencer, 25, were in a grey Audi A3 that failed to stop for police at Stevenage Leisure Park.

After a chase, the car hit a lamppost at Mardley Hill in Woolmer Green at 2.40am.

Two other men who were in the car, aged 21 and 26 and both from Bedford, were taken to the Lister Hospital for treatment.

The crash is being investigated by officers from Essex Police and has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Michael Cush, 26, of Bedford, was arrested in connection with the crash and was later charged with causing death by dangerous driving and aggravated vehicle taking. 

He's also charged with failing to stop for police and driving without a licence and without insurance and due to appear at St Albans Crown Court on 13 November 2012.
