Two women were robbed of a large amount of cash, their keys and phones in Hitchin by two men armed with handguns.

The robbers, who were in a dark car with false registration plates, drove up to McKenzie O'Brien butchers in Wallace Way shortly after 6.30 on Saturday evening (July 2nd).

As the two women left they were approached by the men who took their handbags, which contained a large quantity of cash.

Detective Inspector Neil Waring has been telling Heart:

"This was an audacious robbery which happened in broad daylight and was a frightening experience for the victims. I would urge anyone who may have any information at all in relation to this incident to contact us as soon as possible.

"Did you see a dark coloured vehicle acting suspiciously in or around Wallace Way or the industrial estate prior to, or after 6.30 pm? If you have any information at all, no matter how small you think it may be, please contact us as a matter of urgency."
