A military jet has landed safely in Suffolk following an in-flight emergency.

The US Air Force refuelling aircraft - a KC-135 Stratotanker - experienced problems in the air at about 12.20am today.

It returned to its base at RAF Mildenhall and no one was injured, the 100th Air Refuelling Wing said in a statement.

A spokesman added: "Safety is paramount to the success of our mission.

"The air force's stringent safety standards help ensure the well-being of our people and the communities we interact with.''

The statement gave no further details about the incident.
