A man in his 30s has been arrested after he locked himself inside a property on School Road, Tivetshall St Margaret, while he was in a distressed state.
Police were called to the area last night at approximately 10pm following concerns for the safety of the man. A number of police units including response, firearms officers and trained negotiators attended.
Following lengthy negotiations, officers entered the property and the man was detained and remains in police custody where further assessments will take place.
Leading on the incident, Chief Inspector Kris Barnard said: "The area around the property was cordoned off for the safety of all involved, including local residents.
"Specialist police resources worked throughout the day to bring this matter to a safe conclusion and I would like to thank people nearby for their patience and understanding."
Tivetshall St Margaret Primary, near to the scene, was also closed after the head teacher was told about what was happening and made the decision to shut today.
