GCSE league Tables

One of the East Midlands' top secondary schools says a belief that all children can achieve good GCSE results is behind its success.

West Park in Spondon, Derby, has been named as the best comprehensive in the region for 'contextual value added' - which is a measure of the progress kids make between starting and leaving the school.

However, on the day new league tables are released, head teacher Brian Walker says they are not too worried about their position...

"What we concentrate on is how well we do with our young people. Our position in the league table is sometimes an interference, rather than something we have a look at"

"We're very, very pleased to be leading the league table, of course we are. It's great reward for our young people and all the people who work here, it's a nice thing for them."

"The most important thing is that our young people do well".

Based on GCSE results including English and Maths, Beauchamp College in Leicestershire, The Ecclesbourne School in Derbyshire and The Minster School in Nottinghamshire were among the region's top performers.
