Plans for up to 500 new homes in Rayleigh have been given approval.
Rochford Council has given planning consent to the 46 hectare site that lies north of London Road and south of Rawreth Lane.
The development will also include parks, sports pitches, children's play areas and allotments. Land has also been set aside for a potential new primary school and new healthcare facility should they be needed.
Andrew Carrington, Managing Director of Strategic Land at Countryside said: "We are pleased that our proposals for a new neighbourhood to the west of Rayleigh have been approved.
"We are confident that we have a scheme that will not only deliver much needed new housing, but will become a vibrant new neighbourhood where people will really want to live.
"We will continue to work with the Council and the local community to inform the detailed design of the individual phases."
