Another Essex Town Going For City Status

Could Britain's oldest recorded town become it's newest city?

Colchester is the latest town in Essex to say it will bid for city status after the council approved plans at a meeting this week.

Destination Colchester - made up of local people and businesses - are leading the campaign to boost interest and local pride in the town.

It'll be their third attempt at city status after missing out twice before in 2000 and 2002.

Colchester will also be up against Southend and Chelmsford who have both already revealed their plans to put in a bid.
