A woman has been arrested and a cyclist is in a life-threatening condition following a collision in Basildon.

A red Ford Fiesta and cyclist were in collision at around 7.05am yesterday (Saturday 4th August) in Nevendon Road.

The cyclist, a man in his 50s, suffered a head injury and has been taken to hospital where he being treated for a life-threatening condition.

Essex Police say a 59 year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of careless driving, drug driving, driving while unfit through drink or drugs, and failing to stop at the scene and added:

"If you saw or heard anything, were driving in the area and have dash cam footage, or have any other information please call us on 101 quoting incident 392 of 04/08."
