AV Referendum: Essex Says ‘No’

Voters in Essex and East Hertfordshire have roundly rejected a proposal to change the way MPs are elected according to results from Thursday’s AV referendum.

Regional turnout figures released by the Electoral Commission show that in the East of England, 43.1% of 1.84 million registered voters voted in the referendum. Within Essex, 40.80% of registered voters took part. Uttlesford had the highest percentage in the county, with 1 in 2 of registered voters participating in the referendum.
