A 13 year-old boy who died after being hit by a car on the A127 near Basildon has been named as Joseph Sheridan from Wickford.

He was seriously injured in the collision with a BMW on the Southend-bound carriageway at the junction of Oak Lane at around 8pm on Monday, 15 February.

He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

Essex Police said: "(Investigators) would like to hear from any drivers who were in the area at the time who had dashboard cameras fitted to their vehicles, which may have captured footage of events leading up to the collision.

"A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and bailed, pending further enquiries.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Essex Police on 101 or email".

Protestors angry over Joseph's death blocked part of the A127 for around five hours overnight by parking cars over the carriageway.

Demonstrators stood on vehicles which had slogans painted on the side.

One message read: "We want a footbridge. How many more?"
