Shops and businesses in Pitsea have started displaying signs in windows saying they are a 'safe zone'.
It's part of a project - launched by South Basildon and East Thurrock MP Stephen Metcalfe - to try and end the vulnerability crime can cause people.
Anyone feeling threatened or vulnerable can go into the businesses taking part, and help will be called for them.
