A former prison guard from Chelmsford has been charged with misconduct in public office over claims that she had an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.
Elizabeth Surrey was arrested in April after the allegations came to light and is now understood to have left her role at HMP Chelmsford, a category B prison.
Today (Thursday 27 June) Essex Police confirmed she had been charged and will appear before Chelmsford Magistrates' Court next month.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "The 25-year-old former prison officer is on police bail prior to her appearance on July 10.''
