Detectives in Clacton have arrested two further people in connection with the stabbing in St John's Road on Saturday.

They are a 28 year old year old man from Clacton and a 26 year old man from Colchester.

A 47 year old Clacton man arrested yesterday, remains in custody but the 23 year old woman has been released on bail until February 27.

Police were contacted at 11:45pm on Saturday (January 21st) following reports that a man had been stabbed outside an Indian restaurant at the junction of St John's Road, Valley Road and Old Road.

Officers arrived and found a local man with stab wounds to his body. He was taken to Colchester General Hospital and then transferred to Basildon University Hospital where he is currently in a stable condition.

A police cordon was in place at the scene while a forensic examination took place and this was lifted at 1pm on Sunday.

Chief Insp Paul Wells said: "We are not linking this stabbing to any other previous incident. We realise that this is the second knife-related attack in the past couple of months and the seriousness of this problem is not lost on us.

"However, we are confident in saying that the issue is only prevalent in a small section of the town and is confined to a similarly small section of society. We are looking to address this problem in the medium-long term.

"Suffice to say, those individuals who insist on continuing to use knives to sort out their social arguments will end up behind bars sooner rather than later."

Anyone with information in connection with this stabbing is urged to contact detectives at Clacton police station on 101.
