Cop head-butted attending disturbance in Leigh

A 30 year-old man has been arrested after a police officer was head-butted in Leigh.
It happened early last Sunday morning, at around 1235am on Sunday March 3 following reports of a disturbance in Leigh Road.
During an attempt to arrest one man, an officer was head-butted and suffered a cut to his nose and bruising and swelling to his face and eyes.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Investigating officer PC Alex Farr of the Southend Local Policing Team said:
“We believe a number of people were filming this incident on mobile phones.
We would like to hear from anyone who did see this incident or who did film it on their mobile phones who hasn’t yet come forward to us. They could have information vital to our investigation.”

The 30 year-old who was arrested was held on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly, assaulting an emergency worker, assault with intent to resist arrest and affray.
He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
