Coryton: The Death Of A Refinery

Heart has been looking at the impact the closure of the Coryton will have on the local area and Essex as a whole.

The oil refinery - which supplied 20% of fuel in London and the South East - halted sales in January and told staff it was unsure when supplies would start again.

The shutdown came as Petroplus, its Zurich-based owner, went into administration and appointed a receiver to the UK plant.

Three companies - Royal Vopak, Greenergy, and Shell UK Limited - completed their purchase of assets at the end of September to turn it into an oil import and distribution terminal.

Heart's Dave Paramore has this special report.
