The A12 is now running in both directions following a single vehicle collision near junction 17 earlier this afternoon.
A man in his 80s was airlifted to a London hospital after his silver Ford Focus left the carriageway and collided with a tree just after 1pm today.
He was seriously injured and remains in hospital.
The northbound carriageway has been unaffected, although southbound was closed for a number of hours.
Currently lane two southbound is open although we hope to open lane one soon.
There is also still a closure in place from the A130 to A12 southbound. This is to allow officers to continue in their investigative work at the scene in safety.
Detective Sergeant Steve Holmes from our Serious Collision investigation Unit said:
“We would really like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision and who has not already spoken to an officer. If you have dash cam, please email us.
“Witnesses have told us that a transporter or HGV vehicle was travelling southbound near to the incident location and we would ask the driver of that vehicle to get in contact. We would like to speak to you as a witness and there is no suggestion you were involved in the collision.
“We’d also be interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen the silver Ford Focus prior to the incident traveling along the southbound A12 and noticed how it was being driven.”
