Essex: Lorry Driver Dies In Accident

A lorry driver's died on the A12 in Essex after his vehicle overturned and caught fire.

The accident happened on the southbound carriageway between Mountnessing and the M25 junction just before 4pm on Tuesday afternoon when the lorry overturned and caught fire.

Fire crews from Grays, Brentwood and Ingatestone attended the scene and extinguished the flames by 4.30pm. The northbound carriageway was closed to allow the air ambulance to land.

There are long delays and police are advising drivers to avoid the area. A diversion is in operation, leaving the the A12 at J12, onto the A1023 through Brentwood and back on at J11 Brook Street roundabout.

The southbound closure is expected to remain in place throughout the remainder of the rush hour and early part of the evening.
