An 8 year old from Essex has been rushed to hospital in America, as the brain tumor he suffers is so aggressive, UK doctors currently can't cure it.

Alex Field, from Collier Row, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in July 2010.

He's already had an operation at Great Ormond Street Hospital to remove 70% of the tumor.

He's also had to endure radiotherapy, several operations to insert a shunt into his brain to drain fluid and many intensive courses of chemotherapy.

On Wednesday 15th June the eight year old underwent another MRI scan, his tumour had grown significantly.

This meant he was rushed to America, along with his parents and sister, to meet with Consultants at the Chicago Children’s Memorial Hospital.

But treatment in America is expensive so his family are now trying to raise £300,000 to cover medical costs, they've raised over £160,000 so far.
