Five Injured In Crash On A12 Near Witham

Five people have been injured, including one seriously, after a car came off the A12 and hit trees near Witham.

Police were called to the southbound stretch between Witham and Hatfield Peverel just after midnight yesterday (Monday, 2 May).

Essex Police said: "A blue Vauxhall Zafira travelling towards London had left the road and collided with trees.

"The fire service and ambulance service were also contacted and the road was closed between junctions 21 and 22 for seven hours while investigation work was carried out and the scene was cleared.

"Five people, all from London, were taken to hospital.

"One man suffered multiple injuries, which were described as life changing.

"A 26-year-old man suffered a broken collarbone, a 30-year-old woman suffered head, back and arm injuries, a 31-year-old woman suffered head and pelvic injuries, and a 15-year-old girl suffered minor injuries.

"A 40-year-old man from Middlesex was arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence of drink or drugs and is currently in custody awaiting questioning.
