Detectives investigating the murder of Vilson Meshi in Basildon are appealing for information after a flare was discovered in his vehicle.
Vilson Meshi's body was found in the back of his Audi in Pincey Mead shortly before 5pm on Saturday, February 27. There was fire damage inside the car and his death is being treated as murder.
Upon searching the car, officers discovered a Hansson Ikaros red hand held flare.
DCI Stephen Jennings of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, who is leading the investigation, said: "We believe a flare of the variety pictured was used to start the fire in the car.
"I'm appealing to anyone with knowledge of these flares being in circulation in the local area.
"Do you know anyone with these flares in their possession? Have you been offered any for sale? Please call my team if you can help with these enquiries."
Anyone with information is asked to contact DCI Jennings' team at the Brentwood major crime team on 101 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
