Increasing number of abandoned animals

An animal rehoming centre for Essex has been telling Heart they're seeing more cases of neglect than ever before.

Maggie Jackman from Sesaw near Colchester says it's because more and more people are struggling to afford things like decent pet food and vet costs after the recession.

They tell us it's led to an increase in cases of things like under-nourishment and animals covered in flees because they've not been treated.

The centre is currently looking after more than a hundred animals, from cats and dogs, to donkeys and goats, in need of new loving homes.
