An elderly woman has died after she was hit by a van in Loughton.
The pedestrian, who is in her 70s, and a white Ford Transit van collided on Oakwood Hill just before 7.40 this morning (Thursday 10 October).
An air ambulance attended but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 22-year-old man is in custody having been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and being unfit through drink or drugs.
The road is currently closed and motorists are advised to find alternative routes.
