A 27-year-old man from Surrey is appearing at Basildon Magistrates Court today (Saturday 19 November) charged with a number of driving offences.

Nicholas Field, from Free Prae Road in Chertsey, is accused of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance following an incident where a Ford Mondeo failed to stop for police on Arterial Road, West Thurrock at 10.10pm on Thursday 17 November.

The car was pursued along the A13 to the Sadlers Farm roundabout.

It then ended up on the A130 in the roadworks section when a roadworks lorry ahead, pulled across the carriageway to protect the roadwork crew.

The car tried to enter the wrong carriageway against the traffic but was stopped from doing so by a police car.

Essex Police say "the quick thinking of both the road worker and the police officer undoubtedly prevented a serious accident or loss of life".
