A man has died after being hit by a lorry on the M25 in Essex.

Police were called to the anti-clockwise carriageway between junctions 29 and 28 at around 9pm yesterday.

The Metropolitan Police said: "Officers and the ambulance service attended and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Next of kin have not yet been informed and these enquiries are ongoing.

"The M25 anti-clockwise was closed whilst investigations began.

"At this early stage collision investigators believe the deceased's car collided with the central reservation and he pulled over to a stop on the hard shoulder.

"He has then exited his car and subsequently been in collision with a heavy goods vehicle (HGV).

"The driver of the HGV briefly stopped, but did not remain at the scene.

"Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for the driver of the lorry to contact them.

"They are also appealing for any drivers travelling on the M25 at that time, which may have witnessed any part of the incident, to contact them.

"Any witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to call Roads and Transport police via 0208 345 4955".
