A man has been sentenced for causing the death of his father at their Essex home.
Maurice Green pleaded guilty to manslaughter after his 78 year old father Royston died following an incident at their home in Basildon in December.
The 42 year old from Railway Approach, Laindon was sentenced to 2 years and 8 months at Chelmsford Crown Court on Friday, April 1, 2011.
Senior Investigating Officer DCI Lucy Robinson said: "Royston Green was a devoted family man, who in addition to raising his own children, brought up his grandson after the death of his daughter. He was well known by those locally as a good friend and neighbour.
"His son Maurice has admitted responsibility for his death by pleading guilty to his manslaughter. Maurice had a history of convictions for violent offences and anger management issues. Tragically on the day Royston died he lost his temper and pushed his father, causing him to fall. He died as a result of the injuries sustained.
"The sentencing of Maurice Green has hopefully brought some closure to Royston’s family in what can only be described as a huge loss to them and everyone else who knew him.
"My thoughts are very much with them today and I hope that given time they can come to terms with their loss."
