Trains on the line between Southend and Liverpool Street have been cancelled between Southend Victoria and Wickford after a man's body was found on the line.
It was discovered this morning.
A BTP spokesman said: "We are currently (Wednesday, 27 January) at Southend Airport rail station following a report of a body on the tracks.
"BTP officers are in attendance with colleagues from the East of England Ambulance Service, and a man has been pronounced dead at the scene.
"The incident was reported to BTP at 7.47am and is currently being treated as unexplained.
"Officers will now work to establish how the man came to be on the tracks, and to inform his family."
Greater Anglia has said it expects the disruption to last until at least midday.
