Stansted Airport passenger numbers fell last month, in contrast to other BAA aiports around the country.
The number of passengers handled at BAA's six UK airports rose 3.8%, compared with January 2010, the company announced.
But passenger numbers at the Essex terminal fell 5.8%, as Edinburgh showed an increase of 13.6%, Aberdeen 9.1%, Glasgow 8.0% and Southampton 4.8%.
European scheduled traffic rose 2.7% while North Atlantic numbers increased by 3.2%.
Other long-haul routes rose 4.5%, including increases of 30% on routes to China and rises of 10% on Indian services.
