Two people have been arrested over an assault in Chelmsford that left a man with serious head injuries.

Emergency services were called to Primrose Hill at around 11.50pm on Thursday (7 April).

Essex Police said: "A 30-year-old-woman and a 26-year-old man from East London were arrested in Chelmsford late last night (Friday, April 8).

"They are being questioned on suspicion of assault and are in custody at Chelmsford Police Station.

"Police were contacted by the ambulance service at 11.50pm on Thursday with reports that a man had been found seriously injured in the street in Primrose Hill.

"The man, aged 23 and from Chelmsford, had suffered serious head injuries and had to be airlifted to Addenbrookes Hospital.

"He is still there, receiving treatment, and remains in a critical but stable condition".
