Another two people have been arrested after unarmed police officers were shot at in Basildon.

They were called to reports of several men with firearms in the Arne Court area at around 1.20am yesterday.

When they got there one man ran off and, as they chased him, they were shot at.

No-one was injured but five men were arrested - three on suspicion of attempted murder and two on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery.

Another two people have now been arrested on conspiracy to commit robbery.

Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector, Marina Ericson said: "Officers remain in the area making enquiries and engaging with the local community whilst we build a picture of what happened.

"I'm keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone who has information which can help my investigation.
