Weeley: Arrest After Fatal Crash

A 22 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, after a pensioner was hit by a car and killed in Weeley.

It happened on Clacton Road yesterday (Friday 20 January) afternoon at around 4pm.

According to Essex Police, the pedestrian, who was 82 years old, was hit by a blue Vauxhall Vectra.

The woman, who lived locally, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Part of Clacton Road was cordoned off for around four hours while forensic examinations took place.

The driver of the car, a 22 year old Clacton man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

He has been released on bail until April.

Essex Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses.
