A woman has died after a crash involving three cars near Chelmsford.
Emergency services were called to the A131 at the junction of Scurvy Hall Lane at around 8.10pm yesterday.
Essex Police said: "The collision involved a red Ford Focus, an orange BMW Z4 and a brown Honda Jazz.
"A woman aged in her 70s driving the Focus had to be released from her vehicle by Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and was taken by ambulance to Broomfield Hospital where she sadly later died.
"The woman driver of the BMW was also taken to Broomfield Hospital by ambulance, treated and later released. The driver of the Jazz did not require medical treatment.
"The A131 was closed for around six hours to enable the emergency services to deal with the incident and also carry out initial forensic collision investigation work.
"The Serious Collision Investigation Unit would like to hear from anyone who saw the collision or who may have information which would assist.
