Last night thousands of awestruck Londoners and tourists watched Christmas arrive in Regent Street.

The switching on of the Regent Street lights truly signal that Christmas has arrived in London.

Last night thousands of people joined Heart's Sian Welby and Jamie Theakston to watch actress Jodie Whittaker turn on the stunning set-up.

As more than 300,000 LED bulbs were switched, on fireworks filled the night sky - rivalling the area above the grand promenade for attention.

Performances from the cast of West End’s Dreamgirls, and singer Calum Scott rounded off the evening - and got everyone geared up for a spot of shopping.

Luckily Regent Street - which went car free for the occasion - was ready. Shops stayed open late for visitors to really get in the festive spirit

Home to some of London’s grandest shop fronts and most established and iconic brands, Regent Street is also the backdrop to the largest lights display in London.

This year, the display - The Spirit of Christmas - is inspired by the street’s first ever festive display back in 1954.
