Fears Over Teaching Assistant Cuts

There are fears the standard of education in Devon's schools could slip, as cuts in teaching assistants look likely.

In the last few years more support staff have been working in classrooms in the county but with budget cuts anticipated, it's believed teaching assistants and administrative roles will be the first to go.

Jamie Wells who is Secretary for Devon's branch of the NUT says "there's no doubt about it, teaching assistants are a wonderful support and I know that over the last few years teachers have come to rely on the support that assistants do provide."
