More Cuts for Devon's Police

We are expecting more cuts for Devon's police - which would make redundancies almost inevitable.

Almost £3 million of savings have already been made this year but another reduction is expected soon in an emergency Government budget.

Devon & Cornwall Police Authority Chairman Mike Bull says it is hard when staff wages make-up 80 percent of costs: " if we take really really serious cuts then it is difficult to see how you can protect 80% of your budget from bearing some of that weight"

He continued: "this is imposed on us because of the national economic climate and we are just bearing our portion of the effects of that - as will so many of the other public bodies."
